約5億5千年前のカンブリア紀、海中に生息し食物連鎖の頂点に立っていた捕食動物で体長50cm〜2m。既存の系統への分類が不可能な独特の動物門ですが、最初期の節足動物の系統発生の様子を推定するのに重要なのが、このアノマロカリスです。
