The 1959 is unquestionably the greatest Lafite-Rothschild that has approached full maturity. It remains to be seen whether vintages such as 1982, 1986, and 1990 will reach a similar height. The super-aromatic bouquet of flowers, black truffles, cedar, lead pencil, and red fruits is followed by one of the most powerful and concentrated Lafites I have tasted. Medium to full-bodied, velvety-textured, rich, and pure, it is a testament to what this great estate can achieve when it hits the mark. This youthful wine will last for another 30 or more years.

1959年(99点、最終試飲月:94年10月)は、完全な飲み頃に近づいているラフィット=ロートシルトのうちで間違いなく最も偉大なワインである1982年,1986年,1990年などのヴィンテージが同様の高みに近づくのか見守る必要はあるが。
花、黒トリュフ、西洋杉、鉛筆、赤い果実から成る非常に香り高いブーケの後に、私が今までにティスティングしたなかでも最高の部類の力強さと凝縮感のある味わいが続く。ミディアムボディからフルボディで、ビロードの舌触りがあり、豊かで 純粋なワインだ。この偉大なるブドウ園が目標を達成したときに得られる成果の証と言えよう。この若々しいワインは、さらに30年以上もつだろう。

24 notes since 1975. Undoubtedly a great wine. Very rich, fragrant, elegant, though hefty for Lafite. Plenty of life. Good notes from the mid-1970s to the 1980s, with theexception of a rather ‘hot’ slightly acidic bottle at Flatt’s marathon in 1988.Most recently Walter Eigensatz presented us with bottles, magnums, a double-magnum, a jeroboam and an imperiale which were tasted blind in random order. The imperiale I noted as ‘’firm’’ with ‘’great length’’ and ‘’needs more time’’. The jeroboam was perfect and just surged out of the glass. The double-magnum seemed the most supple and ready; the magnums excellent; the bottles slightly variable.

ラフィットの史上で最良品のひとつで、もっと繊細な香りの53年物とは全く異なる。 長持ちする。最新の試飲はマグナムにて:ダークチェリー色の芯を持つ深い色。香りの出現が遅く、最初はかすかな鉄臭の抑えた芳香であった。甘い、おいしい風味が満ちる。偉大な余韻。
歯を引き締めるようなタンニンがあってスパイシー。ラフィットの名を裏切らない。 出色。最後の試飲は2006年7月。★★★★★　今後さらに良くなるだろう。

Ch.LAFITE 1947

14 notes, fairly consistent. A beautiful, well-balanced wine in the late 1950s. Not deep, always fairly maturing-looking. By the mid-1980s furthe evolution of bouquet which, in turn, developed in the glass. Touches of iodine, iron, vanilla, ‘medicinal’ Pauillac but always fragrant.
Sweetish, a full-flavoured wine with elegance and power, and excellent acidity. The best probably the magnum at a Marin County Wine & Food Society dinner in 1986

The 1962 Lafite-Rothschild exhibited the chateau's tell-tale cedary, cigar box-like, understated bouquet, and light-bodied, delicate flavors. Although soft, round, and delicious, like so many Lafites, its stiff price always makes me think that the quality of Lafite is rarely proportional to the wine's cost. Last tasted 12/95
